The Welsh Judo Association is saddened to learn of the passing of Allan McGuinness, who died suddenly on 19 September 2026 at the age of 79.
Allan was a familiar and highly involved figure within Welsh judo for many years, contributing to the sport from the late 1970s through to the mid-2000s. During his time in judo, Allan held a number of important roles, including Senior Club Coach, Senior Examiner and BJA Referee, and achieved the grade of 4th Dan. He also served Welsh Judo for a number of years as a member and Secretary of the Welsh Judo Association committee.
Together with his wife Gwyneth, Allan also ran Malpas Judokwai in Newport from 1979 until the late 1990s, supporting generations of judoka and making a lasting contribution to the local judo community.
Many players, coaches and officials from across Wales will remember Allan and the part he played in Welsh judo over several decades.
The thoughts and condolences of everyone at the Welsh Judo Association are with Allan’s wife Gwyneth, his children Hazel and Kevin, and all of his family and friends at this sad time.
