Interim CEO Appointment – Public Announcement

The Welsh Judo Association is proud to announce the appointment of Tom Hughes as Interim Chief Executive Officer. Tom, who is currently the organisation’s Development and Events Manager, and will continue in this capacity in a split role, brings a wealth of experience to this interim position. Tom will now lead the staff team as we look ahead to an exciting 2025 for judo in Wales.

Chris Emsley, Chair of the WJA said, “I’ve had the pleasure of working closely with Tom throughout my tenure thus far, and he’s always impressed me greatly. His knowledge and solution-focused approach has become the bedrock for success within our organisation. I have no doubt he will thrive in this new role, as he has done in all the other roles he’s undertaken during his 10-years of service at Welsh Judo”.

Tom said, “I am delighted to take on the role of Interim CEO for Welsh Judo. I am incredibly proud of what judo offers, from its ability to inspire individuals to the wider social benefits it brings to communities across Wales. As we move forward, we will continue focusing our efforts on supporting our dedicated staff, clubs, and members to build on our recent successes. Together, we will continue to develop opportunities for judoka across Wales and strengthen our sport at all levels.”.
