The Welsh Judo Association is please to announce and congratulate Andrew Burt on the award of his 6th Dan.
Andrew’s promotion is a reflection of decades of dedicated service to Judo, both on and off the tatami. From representing Great Britain as an athlete to shaping the future of Welsh Judo through his coaching, officiating, and leadership roles, Andrew’s contribution is exceptional.
Throughout his judo journey, Andy has worn many hats, including:
- GB Squad Member (1984–1986)
- Commonwealth Games Judoka (1986)
- Kata National Medalist (1985)
- Support Coach to the Welsh Squad
- Director of the Welsh Judo Association
- Senior Examiner & Kata Examiner
- National C Referee
This recognition honours not only his technical excellence but also his long-standing commitment to developing judoka across Wales.
In recent weeks, Andy has been unwell, and his belt was presented to him at his hospital bedside by Welsh Judo Director of Examiners, Steve Withers. Even in challenging circumstances, his passion for judo and the judo community shines through.
The WJA would like to thank Andrew for his continued support and leadership within our community. We look forward to his return and involvement in supporting the next generation of Welsh judoka.
Congratulations once again, Andy – a well-deserved honour!
