It was a great weekend for Welsh Judoka and Welsh University athletes at the British Universities & Collages Judo Championships held at the University of Wolverhampton in Walsall.

Across an action packed two days, Welsh judoka and Welsh University athletes collected 3 medals and numerous placing. 

The men’s +100kg (1 Kyu & Above) saw Oliver Barrett (University of Wolverhampton / Dragon’s Academy) win silver. In the women’s -70kg category (1 Kyu & Above) Holly Devall (Cardiff Metropoliton University / Dragon’s Academy) won gold, and Ashleigh Barnikel (Cardiff Metropolitan University / Neyland Judo Club) also won gold in the -48kg  category (1 Kyu & Above) for the second year running to qualify for the European University Championships in Croatia this July.

Welsh University athlete from Bangor University were well represented across the Championships, with  Daniel Moore placing 5th in the men’s -66kg (2 Kyu & Below) category. In the men’s +100kg (2 Kyu & Below) category Aaron Shirt won bronze, and Susannah Paget winning silver in the women’s -70kg (2 Kyu & Below) category, along with a number of strong performances.
