Be Active Wales Fund to launch Tuesday 7th July
The COVID-19 pandemic has hit communities across Wales hard and as a result, sport in the community has come to a halt. As some sports begin to make their return, the sector must rapidly prepare to restart and adapt sporting life alongside COVID-19.
Sport Wales has reallocated budgets to create a fund to help support clubs and not-for-profit organisations to protect their sport offer during the pandemic, and to prepare for their reopening. Preparing a sports club or project for restarting means adapting the offer to retain and attract interest in the club during the pandemic and in the aftermath.
As the Sport Wales Emergency Relief Fund comes to a close this week after providing more than £570k to 313 clubs that were faced with serious financial difficulties we recognise what a vital lifeline he funding has been to clubs as we navigate our way back to the sport during this uncertain time.
Next week will see the launch of a new grant fund called the Be Active Wales Fund and will be critical in supporting grassroots sport to survive the lockdown and thrive beyond the pandemic. The Be Active Wales Fund will be launched on Tuesday 7 July, made possible thanks to Welsh Government and the National Lottery. This new open fund of up to £4m will continue to protect community clubs and organisations, while also enabling clubs to prepare for sporting life alongside Coronavirus.
In order to fully adhere to health guidelines and social distancing requirements is vital that clubs will need to adapt many of their activities. This funding will help make that possible.
Community clubs and organisations will be able to apply for grant funding of between £300 and £50,000. The Be Active Wales Fund will target those clubs and organisations in areas of deprivation as the research carried out by Sport Wales has found that those communities have been hit hardest by the lockdown.
As we continue developing and updating our COVID-19 resource page, please ensure you are signed up to Be Active Wales newsletter to receive the latest funding updates. The Welsh Sports Association are providing valuable support and advice as we adapt to a new normal in order to return to ensure a safe return to the dojo.
We thank you again for your continued support.
