Commonwealth Games Federation, Commonwealth Games Australia and Andrews Labor Government have announced the full line-up of sports for the Victoria 2026 Commonwealth Games.
The published list of sports for the Victoria 2026 Commonwealth Games unfortunately does not include judo.
Judo made a return to the Commonwealth Games programme this summer, being announced as a core sport following the exclusion of judo in the Games programme for the 2018 Commonwealth edition in the Gold Coast.
The Games in Birmingham saw huge success, and Welsh Judo is disappointed that Victoria 2026 does not include judo. We look to support the International Judo Federation (IJF) in appealing the decision moving forward.
Welsh Judo CEO, Lucy Scott commented,
“Before coming into role, I was very aware of the importance of the Olympic and Commonwealth Games to Judo and its future generations. I am extremely disappointed for all of our athletes who now do not have this opportunity at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
We stand with and fully support the IJF’s appeal.”
